Research Networks

The essential foundation of the Virtual Health Library (VHL) model is collaboration. In the VHL in Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicines (VHL TCIM) several initiatives converge, one of which is a consortium of researchers. This portal space seeks to become a meeting point for academics and researchers from the Americas Region working in TCIM. This section is managed by the Brazilian Academic Integrative Health Consortium.

Although, the Consortium emerged as a national initiative, it seeks to mobilize researchers inside and outside Brazil, and aspires to be the seed of a regional network of collaboration for research in TCIM.

Through an agreement between the Ministry of Health of Brazil and BIREME/PAHO/WHO, a serie of information technology tools were developed to facilitate collaboration, exchange, and development of solutions for researchers, such as Evidence Maps. It is hoped that this collaborative space, complementary to the space of Strengthening Research in TCIM within this portal, will contribute to improve the quality, quantity and relevance of research in TCIM in the Americas Region. While at the same time it can contribute to health models, intercultural, integrated services that respond to the needs of individuals, families and communities.

Brazilian Academic Consortium for Integrative Health

The Brazilian Academic Consortium for Integrative Health brings together Brazilian universities and researchers in the field of integrative medicine and health practices.

The Brazilian Academic Consortium for Integrative Health was established following the WHO recommendations for building qualified knowledge and scientific evidence on Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine (TCIM). The consortium also wanted to pay attention to the need for national and international integration among research groups, aiming to develop a joint and synergistic work among Brazilian universities.

The meeting to establish the Consortium was held in the city of Natal, in October 2017, during the 1st National Conference of Integrative and Complementary Health Practices, and was attended to by 25 researchers from 19 Brazilian universities. It was recommended to create an integrated platform to the VHL Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine in the Americas (VHL TCIM Americas). to facilitate the Consortium activities of knowledge management and development of products and services.

The Brazilian Academic Consortium for Integrative Health encompasses Brazilian universities and researchers in Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (ICHP). It is supported by the Brazilian Ministry of Health through a cooperation project with BIREME, and it is expected to expand and integrate researchers from other Latin American and Caribbean countries.
